Pearl Jam are one of a small number of great bands that have stood the test of time from the grunge era of the early nineties. They have proved their staying power on the music scene and are still releasing great albums and quality songs and whenever a tour goes on sale it sells out immediately. I first fell in love with Pearl Jam through the release of their debut album, Ten.

This CD was one that was played and played by me during my college years and early university years and it is still a classic album. It hardly seems like yesterday that this was being played in my bedroom and in my car, as loud as possible, much to the annoyance of my parents. However it’s been 20 years since Pearl Jam formed. My word, where has the time gone!

Pearl Jam are soon be celebrating this anniversary with a variety of releases, a unique film directed by Cameron Crowe which chronicles the years leading up to Pearl Jam forming, the rise of the band through the grunge era and all their latest success and how they are still a relevant band today. Cameron Crowe has worked closely with Pearl Jam members, Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard and Matt Cameron to scour 1200 hours of never seen before and rare footage to create this documentary.

Pearl Jam are also releasing a sound track of rare songs and live performances as well as a book which tells the bands story. Jeff Ament has also been working with high top manufacturer Vans to produce 3 limited edition styles of Vans Sk8-Hi shoe. This shoe is sure to be popular due to the fact that members of the band are big fans of skateboarding and surfing and have longtime been supports of Vans shoes.

There are the red and black shoes with yellow stitching which are the mainstay of the bands logos and colours. There are the green and yellow version which recreate the colours of a now extinct Seattle basketball team, the Seattle Supersonics, another of the bands favourite pastimes. Then there is the Pendelton flannel which again is so fitting with the grunge era.

Each shoe also has unique logos printed on them from the man who designs the Pearl Jam posters which are unique to each show that Pearl Jam performs.

Here’s a video of why Jeff Ament is so excited to be working with Vans and his take on the designs.
